SAMARTH

A home away from home for the persons with Autism, cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disability. Parents/Guardian Society of children of GIMRC, Chandigarh was established in the year 1999 (reg. No. 2899 under Act XXI of 1860). Since its inception, it has been extending services in the field of disabilities. There are only a few institutions which are providing residential services to disabled in the states of Punjab, Himachal, Haryana and U.T, Chandigarh. Keeping in view the problems of various categories of parents, the parents society has taken a decision to start a project which could accommodate children belonging to BPL( Below poverty line) category, senior citizens with disability, severe and profoundly retarded children. Samarth the prestigious project was sanctioned by National trust, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, New Delhi in the year 2006. His Excellency Gen. (Retd.) S.F Rodrigues, the Administrator UT, Chandigarh inaugurated the SAMARTH on 31st March 2007.

SAMARTH provides residential services- both short term (respite care) and long term (prolonged stay). In addition, activities include training in self help skills, communication skills, Functional academics, domestic skills, recreational skills, sports and jib oriented skills.
