Introduction
| The mental retardation clinic aims to assess and identify mentally retarded children and associated physical or psychological problems. The clinic was started in 1998 with a team of Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Medical Social Worker and Staff Nurse. Presently, the MR Clinic also have one Child Specialist. M.R Clinic has following activities:- | |
To assess and identify the mentally retarded children by filling up / walking in proformas.
To assess and identify associated psychiatric, physical, speech related or behavioural problems & referring them to respective specialists.
To organize monthly check up for the school children and hostlers as well.
To provide free medication to the sick children.
To maintain records of old patients for regular follow up
Networking with Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh for emergency cases
To counsel the parents and relatives about MR causes prevention and
To counsel parents about National Disability Certificate and I Cards and Guardianship
To counsel parents about special schools, admission procedures and training facilities available.
To maintain records for eligible candidates for job placement
To pay home-visits to the drop out children of the Institute / School
To help in organising community awareness camps.
To network with the minded institutions and NGO's
To assess social and medical history for the children who need admission in the school
To counsel parents about rehabilitation schemes provided by Chandigarh Administration to the mentally retarded population
The experts are called as guest faculties in the clinic for over all checkup and treatment of the children that is ENT specialist and paediatricians.
Every month approximately 135 children attend the clinic. Out of which 65 are new cases and 70 are old cases
